The data analysis by Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression at the significance level of p<0.0001 shows that there is a significant relationship between emotional adjustment and religious beliefs with the strategies for resolving conflict with parents among students. Furthermore, the relationship of emotional adjustment and religious beliefs with strategies of resolving conflict with parents is multiple among students. In the mean time, regression analysis shows that emotional adjustment and religious beliefs are better predicators for the variables of strategy of argumentation and verbal aggression, respectively, and that religious beliefs are only good predicators for the variable of the criterion for the strategy of physical aggression.

Abstract

The present paper seeks to investigate the effectiveness of teaching the project of hope on the promotion of subjective well-being of prisoners in need of help and correction. To this end, 32 prisoners were selected from prisoners in Qom central prison and were randomly divided into experiment group (16 prisoners) and control group (16 prisoners). They completed the scales of life satisfaction and subjective happiness. The criteria of input and output of this research include: 1- subjects being young; 2- having least literacy; 3-granted forgiveness or vacation at the end of prison; 4- not participating in the project of hope in prisons of the country. The hope project was implemented for experiment group. The covariance analysis of the data shows that teaching the project of hope is influential in increasing the constructs of subjective well-being such as life satisfaction and subjective happiness of prisoners, such that having moderated the scores of pretest between two groups after intervention, there was a significant difference in the factors of life satisfaction and subjective happiness (p=0/000). Furthermore, the project of hope increases life satisfaction and subjective happiness %60 and %48, respectively.

Key words: hope, life satisfaction, subjective happiness.

Abstract

High statistics of divorce among couples at the early years of their joint life shows that wrong mate selection is one of the influential factors for maladjustment and misunderstanding between couples. Accordingly, mate selection is regarded a decisive stage in every individual's life. Using a descriptive-analytical method, the present paper discusses the theory of homogamy, the hypothesis of similarity, the theory of complementary needs, and the theory of exchange. Then it reviews and criticizes them. In addition to empirical findings, Islamic sources are used to criticize these views. It seems that religious homogamy, harmony in religiosity of spouses and other moral characteristics such as chastity are emphasized in Islamic view, while other dimensions of homogamy are deemphasized.

Key words: marriage, mate selection, theories of mate selection.

Intervention based on teaching spirituality in 8 sessions for 8 weeks (each 90 minutes) was made. After these sessions, both groups took the test of life quality. Two months later, both groups retook the test of life quality as follow up. The data was analyzed by covariance analysis, which show the there is a significance difference between mean scores of posttest for experiment group and control group (p<0.01). So, intervention based on teaching spirituality improved life quality in experiment group. Given the positive effect of religious beliefs and acts on mental health, it is recommended to use these capacities in planning measures for mental hygiene, especially for students.
