    Abstract:
In this research, the relationship between Big Five Personality Factors as well as pathological narcissism as an unhealthy personality construct and religious orientation of students in Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute in Qom has been studied. The sample group was composed of 104 male students and 48 female students. They answered the following questionnaires: Goldberg's Big Five Personality Factors taxonomy, Allport-Ross extrinsic and intrinsic religious orientation scale, Batson quest religious orientation scale, Muslim-Christians religious orientation questionnaire, Margolis unhealthy narcissism questionnaire. The main hypothesis of this research, i.e. the relationship between personal traits and religious orientation, was supported; however, the ability of the personality factors to predict piety was unexpectedly at a low level. Among the personality factors, emotional stability is indicative of religious orientation more than any other factor. Emotional stability is indicative of intrinsic orientation positively and some aspects of the extrinsic orientation as well as quest orientation negatively. Conscientiousness (dutifulness) is indicative of the cultural religious orientation. However, there was no evidence for the role of "agreeableness" and "openness to experience" in predicting religious orientation. Pathological narcissism is negatively related to intrinsic orientation and positively related to some aspects of the extrinsic orientation such as otherworldly negative orientation.
