Abstract:
With the spread of the global virus, not only the physical health, but also the mental health of millions of people was at risk. Due to the role of religious beliefs in increasing the adaptive mechanisms of humans, this research has investigated the relationship between "religious attitude" and "health anxiety" and "death anxiety" of people exposed to covid-19 and normal people. The research method was "descriptive and correlation" method. 368 people voluntarily participated in this research. "Religious Attitude Scale", "Health Anxiety Scale" and "Death Anxiety Scale" questionnaire were used to collect data. Using independent t-test, Pearson's correlation and regression, data were analyzed. According to the findings, the variable "health anxiety" and "death anxiety" had a significant difference between people exposed to covid-19 and normal people; But there was no significant difference in the religious attitude of the two groups. In people exposed to Covid-19, the relationship between "religious attitude" and "health anxiety" and "death anxiety" was significant, while there was no significant relationship in normal people. Also, the variable "religious attitude" could predict "health anxiety" and "death anxiety" in people exposed to covid-19. It can be concluded that people exposed to Covid-19 interpret physical symptoms as threatening symptoms more than normal people and have more negative and disturbing thoughts about their death or the death of their family members. But it seems that according to the "fear management" theory, religious beliefs are a good predictor for reducing health anxiety and death anxiety in epidemics, especially in people exposed to the disease. For this reason, it is recommended to consider religious interventions more than in the past in cases such as epidemics.
