Abstract:
The present study investigates the relationship of personality traits and foresight with mental health. It is a "descriptive" research which has used the regression analysis. A number of 101 students of the universities of Qom were selected through "simple random sampling" in the academic year 1998-1997. The variables were measured by the “NEO Personality Inventory” "Foresight Based on Islamic Sources" scale and the "General Health questionnaire". The results showed that there is a negative relationship between neuroticism and mental health, and on the other hand, extroversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and foresight have a positive and significant relationship with mental health. The results also showed that neuroticism is the strongest predictor of mental health. After neuroticism, foresight contributes most to mental health. In addition, each of the qualities of extroversion and conscientiousness have a significant contribution in predicting mental health. In general, the results of the present research supported the view that personality traits and foresight greatly contribute to predicting mental health and showed that personality traits and foresight can explain 53.5% of the variance in mental health.
